Notice of Intent

Parents or guardians are required to notify the superintendent of their local school district of their Intent to Homeschool within 10 days of the start of the school year. Students are required to spend at least 175 hours learning and parents must submit an annual assessment of progress.

Recognized Private Schools

Parents or guardians may choose to enroll in a non approved private school or a “recognized for attendance purposes” private school (RAPPS). Those who start their own must have two or more students enrolled and are held to the same attendance and academic standards as those who submit a notice of intent. (Homeschoolers of Maine)
